Revolutionizing Biological Pest Control with Automation

Automating Biological Stakeout: Save Time and Ensure Precision

As labor challenges increase and chemical pest control options shrink, automation is transforming integrated pest management (IPM). The Entomatic biological dispenser is leading the way, helping growers save up to 75% in labor costs while ensuring precise and effective pest control.

A Success Story: HNS Kwekerijen

HNS Kwekerijen, a red pepper grower in Gelderland, Netherlands, adopted Entomatic to automate the release of beneficial insects in their greenhouse. The results?

  • 🌱 Significantly reduced spider mite pressure.
  • ⚙️ High-precision distribution of predatory mites and bugs.
  • 🚜 Labor savings and consistent quality.

According to owner Sofinus van der Burg:
“The labor savings are nice, but the quality of staking is more important. The machine allows for extremely thin expansions, something that’s hard to achieve manually.”

How Does Entomatic Work?

The Entomatic dispenser integrates seamlessly with greenhouse systems:

  • It distributes beneficial insects like Swirskii mites, Orius bugs, and supplementary feeding agents.
  • The system ensures low mortality rates for the released creatures.
  • Its adjustable settings allow growers to target specific areas with precision.

The Future of IPM

As growers face tighter regulations and increasing pest challenges, innovations like Entomatic are shaping the future of sustainable horticulture. With automation, growers can achieve better results with fewer resources, improving efficiency and reducing reliance on chemical interventions.

Why Choose Entomatic?

Surexport is also using the Entomatic™ to improve their biological control

Post by Carlos Frigolet González – via LinkedIn

In today’s post I return to the professional to tell you that in Surexport we have started the biological control of red spider mites with Phytoseiulus Permisilis (third photo) with the help of Miguel Claros Ruiz de Biobest.

Also as a faithful defender of the implementation of new technologies in agriculture, I am proud to present the machine with which we are making the releases, hand in hand with the advice of INMACULADA ORTIZ PRIETO by COMI AGRICOLA SL.

This machine is the first of its kind in Spain and allows us a more homogeneous release of individuals, as well as a higher rate of release if we compare it with manual releases with operators.

Revolutionizing Greenhouse Farming with Entomatic MD at LG Flowers

Recently, our team from Hortiworld, alongside Biobest colleagues, had the privilege of visiting LG Flowers to install the groundbreaking Entomatic MD. Paired with a battery-powered spraying cart and foldable, height-adjustable beam, this innovative setup is redefining pest control in greenhouse cultivation.

A Seamless Blend of Efficiency and Precision

The installation was a resounding success, showcasing the smooth operation and precision of the Entomatic MD. By automating the even distribution of beneficial insects, growers like LG Flowers are empowered to achieve:

  • Significant labor savings
  • Enhanced pest management precision
  • Support for sustainable agricultural practices

The foldable and height-adjustable beams made the system versatile, seamlessly adapting to various greenhouse structures, while the battery-powered cart demonstrated its mobility and convenience.

Bringing Innovative Solutions to More Growers

This installation marks yet another milestone in our mission to bring cutting-edge solutions to growers worldwide. At Entomatic, we are committed to enhancing efficiency, improving yields, and supporting environmentally friendly farming practices.

What’s Next?

We’re excited to share this success story with more growers and invite you to explore how Entomatic can transform your agricultural practices. Whether you’re cultivating flowers, vegetables, or fruits, our solutions are tailored to your unique needs.

Entomatic MD - Automated Insect Dispenser

Australian Soft Fruit Grower Uses Automatic Dispenser for Beneficial Insects

Like any soft fruit grower, the owner of Australia’s Berry Sweet struggled with high labour costs. According to him, the purchase of Entomatic was a ‘no brainer’. The use of the automatic dispenser saves time and guarantees a homogeneous use of beneficial insects.

Entomatic generates an airflow in which beneficial insects or mites plus carrier are quickly, gently and evenly distributed in the greenhouse. Biobest developed the product in collaboration with Hortiworld. Now they are announcing the successful delivery of Australia’s first Entomatic.

Developed with growers in mind
The device meets the needs of many soft fruit growers, says Stephanus Malherbe of Biological Services, Biobest’s subsidiary in Australia. “I knew that Anthony Yewers, owner of the forward-thinking Berry Sweet in Bullsbrook, was looking for ways to automate the release of beneficial insects.”

After a few demonstrations, Anthony proceeded to purchase Entomatic. Anton Berns (Hortiworld) and Josh Rogers (Wanneroo Agricultural Machinery) assembled the device on site and arranged it in accordance with the grower’s wishes.

Time is money
Berry Sweet (a total of 60 hectares) comprises three locations in Western Australia where strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries are produced for large supermarket chains, among others. Malherbe: “Anthony has been a customer of ours for twenty-two years. At the time, he was the first grower to successfully use IPM programs against Californian thrips in his crop.”

With the rise of Chilli trips in Australia, a new challenge awaits him. This plague requires an even larger-scale deployment of natural pest control agents. “Manually releasing beneficial insects already takes a lot of time,” says Anthony. “And time is money. In addition, all employees involved have their own working methods, which means that the result may differ. That makes it difficult for me to judge whether the task has been done properly.”

Thanks
to Entomatic, the Berry Sweet grower is now optimising his biological control strategies and their effectiveness. “That gives me peace of mind.” The automatic dispenser reduces labour costs and ensures that the beneficial insects are evenly distributed throughout the crop.

Meanwhile, other growers are also knocking on Biological Services’ door. “Entomatic is particularly interesting for large companies,” Stephanus continues. “The larger the area where biology has to be released, the faster the dispenser pays for itself. We also receive requests from growers who want to purchase a machine as a group.”

Can beused flexibly
Because, according to Biobest, that is the beauty of Entomatic: it is a simple modular system and can be adapted to almost all greenhouse crops and cultivation systems. With 2 to 16 dosing points, it can automatically divide predatory mites such as Cucumeris, Californicus, Montdorensis and Persimilis, as well as Orius, into up to 16 rows at the same time. The system is designed with the grower in mind and can be used and installed by anyone with some technical experience.

Exciting developments in sustainable farming!

The technical sales team from Biobest recently received specialized training from Hortiworld – Horticulture systems & machinery on the Entomatic™ automated beneficial dispenser models MD and RD.

Our cutting-edge technology allows growers to distribute beneficials evenly across crops, reducing labor costs and enhancing biological control strategies.

A special thank you to WILDERHOF, and Royal Berry for their contributions and continued support. Together, we’re pushing the boundaries of innovation in agriculture. 🌱🚜

Automatic release of beneficial insects now also for vertically grown crops!

In the strawberry cultivation industry, machines that automatically distribute beneficial insects into the crops have been operational for two years. The Entomatic, a machine developed through a collaboration between Biobest and Hortiworld, has now also been adapted for vertically grown crops. The Entomatic RD, which stands for row dispenser, was showcased for the first time at the recent HortiContact event.

ENTOMATIC™: the efficient ‘octopus’ in the crop.

Fully automated introduction of predatory mites into the crop is possible with the Entomatic. The system replaces a labor-intensive process and ensures a good distribution of the predatory mites in the crop. “With very low mortality,” says Gert-Jan Dillo of Biobest, which developed the device. Growers of strawberries and gerberas, among others, are enthusiastic about the Entomatic.
